Maternity Clothes

Dressing gracefully during pregnancy is fast becoming a fad not only for working mothers but also for housewives. Today’s expectant mothers want to carry their pregnancy in style, and most dress smartly in fitted pants and shirts, shedding off yesteryear’s oversized gowns to hide their belly.

In US, many specialty stores cater to the needs of expectant mothers and offer a variety of clothing, so that women no longer have to be out of fashion due to their pregnancy. Stores like Target, JC Penney, Amazon Marketplace and Nordstrom offer clothes ranging from denims, daily wear, office wear, party wear, sleepwear and even swimsuits for expectant mothers, designing them according to the latest trend or fashion. These specialty stores cater not just to the upper strata of society but also to ordinary people. Many fashion houses also create exclusive maternal clothing and organize special fashion shows to display their product line, with supermodels and Hollywood superstars promoting them.

In the modern world of technological advancements, expectant mothers can also buy maternal clothing online or through catalogs. Many of these online resources not only allow users to shop for maternal clothing, but also provide useful tips on pregnancy. Some companies also design maternal clothing so that a woman can wear these clothes after delivering her baby, which ensures that the clothes stay useful. However, when shopping for maternal clothing one needs to keep in mind that the clothes should be comfortable, and complement one’s personality.

Motherhood is a wonderful experience, and maternity clothing certainly helps in making the moments more memorable by giving expectant mothers the freedom to choose from the latest trend without any compromise. Women can carry their pregnancy gracefully in exclusive maternity clothing.

Making Shopping Lists

Most people these days are in a position to comfortably pay for the necessities of life. Bills like rent and electricity as well as food and clothing expenses, while not cheap, are at least affordable for most people who are in employment. What cause most people the financial hardships that they experience are the discretionary expenditures that they make.

This is the money spend on things that they do not really need, and sometimes do not even want, but are enticed into buying while shopping. There is a field of science that retailers spend millions of pounds on every year that studies what is most likely to make people spend money in stores.

Therefore, everything about a modern store, from the lighting, the music, the layout, the colours, everything, is carefully calculated to give you a sense well being. This well-being will then make you far more likely to spend money on items that you had no intention of buying when you entered the store.

It may be surprising, but for many people who overspend, the problem is not that they want to many things, but that they succumb too easily to the devices in stores that are designed to persuade you to make a purchase. Therefore, the most important thing to help you reduce spending on unnecessary items is to discipline yourself when you are shopping and not be tempted into making the purchases.

One of the best ways to avoid succumbing to unnecessary purchases is preparation. What this comes down to in practice is making a shopping list. Then when you are in the store, stick to the list. Even before going into town or doing your Christmas shopping, or shopping for clothes, make a list of what it is you want to buy, how much you are expecting to pay and then stick to the list. Obviously you will not be able to know exactly how much everything will cost but at the very least you can limit yourself to only buying the items on your list.

Another thing you can do is set a maximum amount to spend. You can set the limit at an amount you know you can afford and are comfortable with before hand and then you can keep yourself within this limit. You can even consider taking out the cash you are prepared to spend before hand and then leaving your credit and store cards at home. Whatever your limit, keeping to it, and deciding before hand what you want to buy and what you want to spend is the secret to keeping your spending under control.

Keeping Sight of Three Things When Seeking for Your Triathlon Clothing

The whole of triathlon is simply a matter of personal choice. The governing bodies allow the competitors to choose the gears they would use, the equipments, the bikes, the clothing and all other things. Only, triathletes have to do what is stipulated in the rules and agreements.

Many athletes find satisfaction on investing on top-of-the-line gears or high-end wetsuits. If it were for anything else, it must be the assurance of the research and technologies used to design and manufacture expensive items. After all, you get what you pay for.

The choice of triathlon clothing is solely yours. There is a wide spectrum of choices both from local triathlon gear stores and online vendors that you might find yourself overwhelmed with options. Prices vary greatly and so are the designs, quality and a number of other things.

There may be lots of choices for you but only a few can actually create the difference. A good fit says it all. It would be better to toss several more dollars on a good pair of triathlon clothing and get what you expect than to get irritated along the race and stray from what you actually must do.

Choosing your triathlon race clothing might sound easier than it actually is. It must take some sound decision-making and a thrust of luck to be able to find one that will not only give you style, satisfaction and guarantee of performance. There are no mandated rules to follow in shopping your triathlon clothing, you can only use your best judgement.

Offers abound, you only have to seek for them. Comparison shopping never fails so it would be better to take the risks. What is offered by a single store may not be offered on another. Nonetheless, each offering may provide you whole new perspectives of choices. Don't be to hasty when making your decisions.

Great deals are offered every now and then. You may not be needing a new bike now but it pays off to watch for sales that will not only save you money but may possibly help you buy the triathlon clothing you have always wanted.

If you're watching for quality then you have to get a good price too. It is pointless to invest so much for a single item and tightening your budget on other gears.

In the end, the only three main ideas you have to consider is price, value and quality. These might not always be found in a single item but surely, there exist some that will offer you the best of all worlds. Only you have to be patient in searching for them.

Back to School Closeout Shopping on the Web

What are your kids wearing back to school? How do Fubu, Nike, Reebok and RocaWear sound? Expensive? Not when you know the secret that people all over the country are learning – the secret that unlocks prices like Nike shirts for $8.95 each. Two piece Jimmy boy’s jean sets for $10.50. Girl’s Meow! Tank tops for $5.98.

Put the car keys down. You won’t find these prices in your local stores. All over the country, parents are turning off the ignition and turning on the computer. Following on the heels of the hugely successful Overstock.com, which stocks name brand and surplus merchandise of all sorts, entrepreneurs like Tabatha Tucker have taken the concept of closeout children’s clothing to the web. With the debut of her new web site, Tucker joins a growing trend of entrepreneurs discovering the online market as a place to connect with parents who are both style-savvy and savings smart.

Tucker’s web site, T. Y. Tucker & Associates (www.tytassociates.com), features popular, brand name children’s clothing at rock-bottom prices. Tucker, who markets her products to both consumers and retailers, deals in liquidations and closeouts.

“We negotiate once in a lifetime deals with clothing manufacturers who were bankrupt or going out of business,” says Tucker. By negotiating deals well below wholesale prices, liquidation dealers acquire top quality, name brand merchandise at pennies on the dollar. Because she doesn’t pay for a brick and mortar storefront to attract customers, she saves again – and those savings get passed on to her customers.

“We carry official name brand tags like GAP, GUESS, POLO, OSHKOSH, ADDIDAS, TOMMY HILFIGER,” Tucker said in reference to the range of clothing and apparel accessories that can be found on her site. It’s “…brand new merchandise in factory condition with savings over 50% below retail.”

When Tucker says ‘over 50% below retail”, she’s short-selling herself. Prices on internet closeout clothing sites are so low that you’ll sometimes have to check your glasses to make sure you’re reading right. Name brand girls’ apparel like Fubu skorts – one of this season’s hottest back-to-school looks – retail in stores for $15.95. Thanks to a special deal with a store that couldn’t maintain their lease, Tucker’s price is $3.90 per skort. Matching shirts that retail for $22 are just $6.98. Boys’ two piece Reebok sports sets that retail for $40 in local stores are priced at just $5.98. And three piece baby RocaWear sport suits that retail for $30 and more are Tucker-priced at $10.50 each.

While prices like those have been available to retailers on internet clothing closeout sites, it’s only recently that sites like Tucker’s (www.tytassociates.com) have offered those low, closeout prices to parents. Just six months ago, if you could find closeout children’s clothing online at all, it was in bulk shipping pallets for purchase from wholesale liquidators. Tucker and others like her undercut even those prices by discounting the name brand clothing on her site even further for bulk orders. “For consumers, (prices) range anywhere from 50% - 70% below regular retail prices. For Wholesalers/Retailers, this could range anywhere from 40% - 60% below regular wholesale prices.”

But price is only one part of the reason that parents are turning to online wholesale and closeout clothing shops. A site like Tucker’s is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for shopping. There’s no need to round up the kids and drag them out to the store, or to fight your way through crowds of other bargain hunters on hot summer afternoons. Online shopping allows parents to shop at THEIR convenience – and save those summer afternoons for doing something the kids will enjoy a lot more than shopping for school clothes.

Because selling kid’s closeout clothing on the Internet is still a new undertaking, many of the clothing sites offer coupons and incentives to entice surfers to give online shopping a try. Tucker’s site is no exception. Customers who make purchases can claim a 3-day/2-night vacation at one of 20 different U.S. city destinations. Tucker also exhibits another trait that is more common in online entrepreneurs than not – an altruistic soul. T. Y. Tucker & Associates has a special program that helps churches, schools, youth groups and charities to earn 10% of purchases made by their members.

Great clothes, great prices, great convenience – and a chance to do good. If there are any negatives in the equation, they’re well-hidden.

Tucker does offer the following caution: “Our closeout prices usually go very fast so shop early, get your coupon code and check often for new arrivals.”

The Hows and Whys of Vintage Clothes Shopping

Why Vintage?

Why would anyone want to wear vintage clothing? First of all, it's fun! When you wear vintage, you stand out from the crowd. The chances of someone else wearing the same exact outfit to that special event are slim to none. More and more high school girls are shopping vintage for dances and proms because it guarantees originality. Yasmine, a vintage clothing collector from Los Angeles, says, "I wear vintage so I can add a little something authentically retro to my clothing and not look the same as everyone else, which is difficult in style-conscious L.A.."

Vintage clothing is also nostalgic. Remember the good old days when there were party lines and soda shops? Me neither, but wearing vintage gives a girl the chance to experience a small part of history. In today's ambiguous world, it feels nice to pull on a crinoline and full feminine skirt once in a while. Let's face it: grown-up girls like to play dress up, too!

For the thrifty, the prices on vintage items should be incentive enough. Local thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales are excellent sources of old clothing at unbelievable prices. Broke? Go volunteer to help clean out grandma's attic! I've gotten several vintage pieces handed down to me since I began collecting about two years ago.

Online Shopping

The internet has made it easy for vintage clothing enthusiasts to comparison shop and buy items that may not be available in their area. Type "vintage clothing" into any search engine and you'll get hundreds of results. There are a few things you should know before purchasing vintage wear online, however.

Carol, owner of Dandelion Vintage, a fun and inexpensive online Vintage Clothing shop based in New Jersey, recommends that first-time buyers be aware of what it means to buy and wear vintage clothing. "It's not like something new and fresh from Macy's, it's going to feel different and smell differently (there is no "new" clothing smell) and the items do need to be treated a little more carefully," she said, adding that customers should always ask questions up front about the garments, especially if they are unsure of the size or condition. When shopping vintage online, she says, be sure to read the site's terms of sales, ordering procedure, and return policy before ordering.

There are many different styles and eras to choose from. Items from the late 19th century on up through the 1980's are available. Whatever your style, you're sure to find something to suit you. Carol suggests customers buy what they like and avoid following trends, which is excellent advice when it comes to collecting of any type.

Making it Work

Vintage clothing can be teamed up with modern apparel or mixed and matched with other vintage pieces. Back in L.A. Yasmine says, "I find that wearing head to toe vintage is just not practical in day to day life, but by adding a few pieces I can create a look that is uniquely my own. I often buy high-end designer shoes and team them with a $1.00 vintage dress and a Gap cardigan. The look is pulled together and definitely mine."

There you have it: vintage clothes are fun, affordable, and enable the wearer to create and maintain an original look. So what are you waiting for? Go shopping!

How To Choose The Right Clothing For Your Children For Style And Comfort

Clothing for children is readily available in many styles. Clothing should be warm, non-irritating and not constrictive. Children need clothes that are going to be able to move with them and keep them comfortable throughout the day. Although many styles of clothing may be cute, you should always look for the best combination of function and style. It is also important to remember that children are in different climates throughout the day, going in and out of school, so layering is key.

Keep in mind children are very active and need comfortable clothing!

A small infant does not regulate their body- temperature very well. Always dress them in one more layer than you find comfortable for yourself. As they grow keep in mind their activity level. Toddlers move around more and will be comfortable in the same amount or clothing, as you are.

In the winter dress children in layers to keep the warmth in close to their bodies while they are outdoors. Then you can remove a layer when they are too warm or add clothing as needed. Keep heads covered when outdoors, use scarves, hats, or blankets to keep the brisk weather off their heads. A majority of heat is lost through the head. The scarves and blankets will help avoid breathing in the cold air, which is uncomfortable for children.

When choosing material, look for softness, comfort, and material with good airflow around it. Flannel will provide extra warmth, cotton breathes better. Avoid constricting or itchy material such as wool or other stiff materials.

Children are very active, so less restrictive clothing will ensure better movement. Avoid clothing with a lot of belts, buckles, or to many buttons. Elastic is easy to pull on and off and often is the best choice for toddlers who are potty training. Zippers are also easy for both children and you.

Both boys and girls are active. Boy's will look nice dressed up but may feel restricted by suits and ties so go for sweaters and dress pants instead. Girls will look lovely in dresses and tights, but keep in mind they are active too. For safety, clothes should not have loose ties or ribbons that can get caught on play equipment.

When dressing your infant, toddler, or older child it is important to pay attention to the current weather. You also want to be aware of the level of activity your child will be participating in. The more active a child is, the hotter their body's become. Dressing your child appropriately for their activity level and the weather will help ensure your child will be as comfortable as possible.

Selecting Safe and Stylish Newborn and Infant Baby Clothing

With such a vast selection of baby clothes available today, parents need to select infant clothes that are comfortable, durable and safe for their children to wear. Walk into any newborn clothes store and you will be offered numerous options. But how do you know these infant clothing will suit your baby with regards to skin allergies, comfort, diaper changes, safety, practicality and looking good. Follow our tips to find right newborn clothing for your child so you can be sure that you get the quality you pay for. With that in mind, you are likely to find luxury baby clothes of higher quality from designer baby clothes rather than a discount newborn clothing store. This isn’t to say that you can’t find quality newborn clothing at a discount store. Many points should be considered when a parent is shopping for infant clothing.

Ensure that all the infant clothes are comfortable for you baby by selecting newborn clothing that features wide leg, arm and head openings. Baby clothes should not be too tight or small for a child. Buy a size up to ensure a good fit. All sleepwear is to be flame retardant and should be safe with no strings or buttons that may be hazardous. All newborn clothes should be easy to change in and out of. Crotch snaps make diaper changing fast and easy. Select baby clothes with a button up front to ease stress on the baby from having clothes pulled over their head. Onesies are very practical clothing for babies to wear. These are a one-piece suit from feet to neck and usually feature snap crotches. Avoid clothes with decorations or small buttons, as this can be a choking hazard. Overalls are not a good idea unless they feature snap crotches.

When selecting luxury baby clothes, check what fabric the clothes are made of to ensure the baby clothing is comfortable, flame retardant (when required), warm and won’t react with your child’s sensitive skin. Several baby clothes retailers are bringing out newborn clothes that are made from organic fabrics that are free from bleaches, pesticides, heavy dyes and feature flame-retardant qualities. This fabric is light and allows skin ventilation to keep the skin at an even body temperature while absorbing body moisture. Merino wool is another natural fabric that can feature no added synthetics or unnatural colours. It is an ideal fabric for newborns and is unlike regular wool. This wool is made with a natural method that doesn’t prepare the wool through a chemical process like drenching or scouring.

Unlike newborn clothes made from synthetic fibres that may cause overheating, merino wool is an insulating fibre that will keep the body at a constant temperature. Baby clothing with a high absorbency level will keep your baby feeling fresh and dry. A few terms that may feature on baby clothing include Lycra, polyester, cotton flannel, velour, faux fur, swan’s down, Jacquard knit, cotton knit, brushed cotton and interlock knit. Lycra is a synthetic fibre that is made from polymer that contains polyurethane that means it is a very stretchy fabric. Polyester is made with synthetic resins and is known for it’s strong, light and weather resistant qualities. Brush cotton is a fabric that has been brushed to remove lint and other excess fibres to leave the cotton soft and smooth.

Womens Plus Size Clothing Guide

When someone decides to select and buy their clothes online they are opening up the doors to a wide world of choices that include the latest fashions, hard to find pieces and discounted rates. Avoid the rush and discomfort of shopping at a mall by shopping at home and spend more time relaxing with family and friends. If you have a formal engagement coming up, don’t hit the shops and elbow your way to the perfect top in your size. Choose online for the latest styles and colors with a large stockpile of your favourite size.

Finding clothes to it your body perfectly can be quite daunting. There are so many things to consider that includes fabrics, colors, styles, cuts and contouring. It can be quite easy to finding a perfect outfit by sticking to some simple rules. Don’t get caught out by what your friends think when you are trying clothes on, they may think they are doing good but they won’t be the one spending vast amounts on clothes that may only be worn once. Trust your own instinct and listen but don’t base your decisions on the advice of others. To ensure you have a great shopping experience while on the Internet, we recommend the following tips. If you feel comfortable wearing heels, choose shoes with a 1inch heel and notice how dramatically taller and slimmer you appear. Get you bra refitted every few years to ensure your bras fit comfortable and won’t cling or hang from you. Underwear shouldn’t be tight or too loose; this can create unwanted lines and make your clothes hang incorrectly.

When creating a wardrobe select the clothes that favour the shape of your body and build your style around these cuts, fabrics and colors. If you have wide shoulders avoid boatneck tops otherwise this shirt can be used to accentuate a bustline or contour the waist.

Handbags and accessories are another issue altogether. With such a variety of sizes, colors and styles there is always that wide belt or large handbag to flatter shape. Clothes should always fit with the accessories but not always be too matching as this can create a bland look. If you don’t like accessories brushing against your body, go for a strapless handbag. Belts can be used to contour waist. Rather large belts can cut the body in half, avoid this look if you think it is unflattering. The latest fashions are not always best. There are so many color, cuts to consider and they won’t fit you everytime. Choose selectively or buy clothes that resemble clothes you already have. Colors are a great way to show off or hide parts of the body. Bright clothing can attract and are great as a top to highlight a favourite asset. The same applies to dark colors; these can be used to flatter your bum or waist.

Create a look that will leave a lasting impression by mix and matching the fabrics of your clothing while keeping the color the same shade. This creates a funky look that won’t be bulky or uncomfortable. Remember to avoid clingy or baggy clothing, as these will distort your figure.

Keep these tips in mind when you are next browsing the online shopping sites. Have an eye out for clearances and sales but be ware that they are on sale for a reason. Create a look that is timeless and practical rather than expensive and ‘gotta have that now look.’ Select your clothes online, draw up a wishlist then step instore for fast shopping or order online for convenient and fast delivery straight to your door. Shop around to be sure you have value for money as many stores have similar styles at a cheaper price.

Why Junior Clothing Stores Are So Popular With Teens

When you walk through the mall, you may notice that some stores have adolescent girls going in and out of them. A closer examination will show scantily clad mannequins wearing low rise jeans and tops cut off at the midriff. These are the clothing stores that were specifically designed with teenaged girls in mind.

In the early 80s, junior clothing stores began to spring up as clothing manufacturer and designers realized how much money teenagers spent on their clothes. Many of these teens used their own money from jobs that they had and often went shopping without their parents, choosing instead to pick out their own clothes. This trend started with stores such as 5.7.9 and has gone on to include Wet Seal, Charlotte Russe and The Buckle. There are also unisex theme stores that cater to the hard rock and Goth crowd, such as Hot Topic. In these stores you can find leather and lace combinations as well as trendy stockings and outer garments. The decor of junior clothing stores add to the appeal for their younger clientele. The music that is played in them includes rock and other popular genres favored by the young crowd. Many of the salespeople are teens themselves and proudly sport piercings, tattoos and the hair color du jour.

The owners of junior clothing stores know that the prices have to be affordable for teens, so the clothes that they carry usually cost less than what adults would have to pay for theirs. They also recognize that teens are fickle and constantly change their opinions on what is in fashion, so the emphasis is more on style than actual quality. Most of these clothes are cut to fit the smaller bodies that teenaged girls have, but many of the stores realize that not all teens have tiny waists, so they include sections for those teens that are considered "plus" sized. This adds extra appeal because now groups of teens can shop together instead of having to split up to allow the larger sized group to shop at stores that cater mainly to adults. There are also stores such as Torrid that cater to plus sized teenagers, offering them the same styles as their slimmer counter parts that they may not be able to find in the regular junior clothing stores.

Teens are a clothing manufacturer's dream, spending an estimated 172 billion dollars a year. In recognition of that fact, department stores now offer large areas that are dedicated to juniors. They too play music designed to lure them into that section and feature trendy and stylish clothes and jewelry that they think will appeal to their younger audience. Lane Bryant, a store that specializes in plus sized clothing for adults, have added younger looking lines of garments, as have others. For the teens that desire a more classic look, stores such as Abercrombie offer clothing lines that will appeal to this type of shopper.

Baby Clothing Stores

Baby clothing stores are stores which specialize in selling clothes for babies. Sometimes these stores are grouped in with general clothing stores for all ages, but sometimes you can find a specialty shop. There is a veritable boom in baby clothing stores nowadays. Apart from brick and mortar stores, the innumerable on-line stores have made shopping for baby clothes that much simpler. One can buy the best outfits at the click of a key.

In some cases, well known children’s clothiers maintain both physical baby clothes stores and on-line stores as well. For instance, renowned baby clothes specialist, Osh Kosh B`Gosh, has ventured into an on-line store where you can purchase an assortment of OshKosh clothing and accessories for infants and babies.

Other notable on-line stores include Kids & Color that sells everything from dresses, sweaters, hats, leggings, rompers and bibs. Prairie Cottons, offers handmade clothing and accessories for babies, and Baby Gassy Gooma, caters to both baby boys and girls with darling outfits. Baby Bazaar is a popular site offering various items for babies at very affordable prices.

Apart from on-line stores, a number of baby clothes stores including well-known ones like Granny-Made, Trash and Vaudeville, Calypso, Urban Monster, Daffy's—Midtown Clothing, Macy's Clothing, Sam & Seb, Saks Fifth Avenue, Old Navy and many more can be found in most communities.

Ultimately, it does not matter where one buys clothes for babies or how much they cost. The more important thing is that the clothes should reflect the baby’s temperament and should be safe, comfortable and skin-friendly. A well-dressed baby is a happy baby.

Motorcycle Protective Clothing That Works

There is some great looking motorcycle clothing on the market these days, but believe me not all of the motorcycle clothing offers as much protection as you think. In Europe, for motorcycle clothing to be lawfully sold as “safety" clothing, it has to pass a series of European standards, which are pretty lengthy but are available on my website. The standards cover the clothing’s performance in abrasion, tearing and impact tests, and when they have passed; they are sold with the CE mark. However, no such regulation is available in the USA, so what should you look for?

Protection in the right places…

Not many people realise that most motorcycle injuries occur below the belt. Your legs and feet are extremely vulnerable, so make sure that you wear a decent pair of high boots and some protective pants. The pants should be reinforced at the knees and hips; ideally they should attach to your jacket by a zipper. Boots should be thick leather, with a sole that can flex with the foot but has a resistance to crushing across the foot.

Traditional material for motorcycle clothing is leather, but thick nylon and other synthetic materials work well too. Kevlar reinforced jeans are better than normal jeans .Normal jeans last 0.6 seconds in the European standard abrasion test, while protective motorcycle pants will last 5 seconds or more. You don’t really want to be ripping your skin open within less than half a second of falling of your bike do you? Thought not.

Same principles apply to jackets. Make sure they are hardwearing, if they are leather make sure it is thick leather not fashion leather like some jackets. Stitching should be uniform with no dropped stitches, and all your “sharp bits”, your elbows and shoulders should be reinforced, ideally with some impact protection included.

A decent pair of gloves is a must; your palms will be at risk in an accident; you instinctively put out your hands palm side down to stop yourself in a slide, so the palms of your gloves should be reinforced with patches. Knitted Kevlar is especially good for this kind of abrasion resistance, but reinforced leather works well too.

Impact protection can be bought separately like back protectors and so on, but remember where your most vulnerable areas are. And make sure if you buy impact protection you actually wear it! If you have any doubts it may be better to go for motorcycle clothing with a degree of impact protection included so that you know when you put on your jacket and pants, the protection is always going to be there.

Save Money on your Clothing Budget Tame the Closet Monster

When I decided to take control of my finances, reducing the clothing budget was a serious challenge for me. Two pre-teen girls and a teenage girl certainly didn’t make life any easier.

Children grow out of their clothing before we can get it home and hang it in the closet it seems. O.K., maybe that's an exaggeration, but not by much! It's just as likely that the item you bought today will not be worn next month due to fashion "issues." Taking this into consideration, it just doesn't make sense to throw away so much of our hard earned dollars on clothing expenses.

It is also the reason that acquiring gently used and new items at budget saving resources is so satisfactory. Much of a child's wardrobe is still in great condition when they grow out of, or no longer want to wear, the items. Many times their unwanted clothing is given away, donated to thrift stores, sold at yard sales, or offered at consignment shops.

When I decided to take advantage of these resources to save money on clothing and "tame the closet monster", my girls were greatly disappointed. The new methods of clothing acquisition, freebies, thrift stores, yard sales, consignment shops, and clearance items weren't exactly their style. My son wasn’t much of a challenge. Thank goodness, he’s not "fashion conscious".

I found that changing the way I approached them on the subject made things a little easier. For instance we don’t buy "used" clothing. We buy "previously owned, unwanted, or gently worn" clothing. And, I was sure to point out the many benefits of shopping at these budget saving resources.

The thrift store where I shop is owned and operated by the National Children's Center , a local organization that provides educational services, early intervention preschool, and child care to infants and young children with and without developmental delays. You will find that many of your local thrift stores are non-profit and support worthy charities.

I get a terrific value on name brand clothes popular with my girls peers, (Old Navy, Zana di, Paris Blues, Angel, Lei, Guess, Levi, Bubblegum, Mudd, Limited Too, Adidas). Well there’s not much I haven’t been lucky enough to find at this store. As a bonus, my purchase also supports a worthy cause. And let’s not forget that recycling these "unwanted" clothes is environmentally friendly. Everybody wins with these kinds of purchases.

These are important benefits that ease the embarrassment children sometimes experience when they shop at thrift stores. If your children are informed of all these benefits, they have the power to explain why they shop at thrift stores, if it ever comes up, and it doesn‘t have be for financial reasons. The wonderful part is, it will probably never come up in a conversation with their peers. My children have never had to explain themselves. Most items are of good quality and only gently used.

You would never know we are enjoying a frugal lifestyle with a wardrobe like this! In fact, with their closest friends the girls freely brag about the terrific deals we get on clothing. Some of their friends are even envious because of the wide selection of popular brand name jeans the girls are fortunate to own. They have come to the realization that five pairs of name brand jeans at the thrift store is a whole lot better than one at the department store price.

I have found many brand new items with tags still intact. No way for friends to know where these great clothes came from. They probably assume they shop at some expensive department store or specialty shop.

We actually have fun shopping at the thrift store now. I have even caught a hint of excitement in them from time to time. Maybe my excitement for saving money is rubbing off. Not! I think it’s just the fabulous clothes we find! I know the saving thing will kick in later. That’s what counts, teaching them how to be financially independent in life.

I strongly believe that knowledge is power. And, if you want to save money on anything, you must do your research! Informed consumer = More Savings, that's my motto. It took some shopping around for me to locate the best clothing value for my money. I did eventually find the one place where I consistently find excellent values with a great variety of choices.

I find most of my clothing "treasures" at this charity owned thrift store. It's about 15 miles from my home but well worth the drive considering the great values I come away with! My cost per item averages about $3. I rarely spend more than $5 and once in a great while I’ll splurge on a $6.95 item (usually new with tags still intact and a super value compared to the original price)

Besides visiting your local thrift stores you should check out these other great resources for low cost clothing. While shopping for your kids, you may just find some clothing treasures for yourself! These are also great resources for adult clothing, especially business attire that can be very costly.

  • Yard sales are a great resource for anything you might need. It may be a little more time consuming to go this route, but the rewards can be great. If you plan your yard sale trips correctly you can save a lot of time. As you become an experienced yard sale consumer, you will learn where yard sales are frequent in your area.

Combine this information with advertised yard sales in the local paper and on roadside signs and organize your trip to minimize your travel time. You will sometimes find bags of clothes for a great "take all" price. Even if everything isn’t usable you will usually get enough useful clothing to make the purchase a good value.

Make sure the clothes are in the right size range or are something they will grow into within a reasonable amount of time. If you have the time and purchasing items individually is an option, go through the bag. Purchase only what you know will be useful.

  • Consignment shops are rapidly becoming popular. Not only can you find some bargain purchases here they may be a valuable resource for you to turn your unwanted items into money. You let them do all the storing, selling, and paperwork, all you have to do is collect your money!
  • I have a friend who sells all of her unwanted "designer" clothing on the E-Bay auction site. I have not ventured to purchase clothing on ebay myself as of yet, but have purchased many other items such as books, movies, and gifts. Ebay is a great resource for new and pre-owned items, including clothing. Especially if you are geographically limited as far as shopping goes. Of course there are other auction sites where you might find clothing.

Why Buy Organic and Fairtrade Cotton Clothes

All these uses make it one of the most popular and widely traded commodities on earth.

Cotton is a globally important fibre, providing returns to many small farmers in developing countries. Fairtrade cotton has just been released in the UK providing job security and greater incomes to farmers. But the downfall is that most cotton is produced in a way that causes great damage to the environment as is it is one of the most chemical intensive crops in the world. High productivity comes at great environmental and health costs.

So serious are the negative impacts of chemical-intensive agricultural production, that momentum for change has grown considerably in recent years. The trend toward more environmentally friendly production methods is mainly due to enlightened companies under pressure of increased environmental regulation and competition, and informed consumers calling for greater social and environmental accountability.

In many African countries with lax environmental controls, farmers can apply nearly one-third of a pound of chemical fertilizers and pesticides for every pound of cotton harvested. Some of these chemicals are classified as the most toxic around and the negative impacts can be severe. The simple act of growing and harvesting the amount of cotton fibre needed to make a T-shirt takes an enormous toll on the earths air, water, and soil, and has significant impacts on the health of people in cotton growing areas. These carcinogenic chemicals can leave residues on the skin, and it is now argued that these are associated with allergies. Organic cotton is therefore kinder to the skin. For more information visit the Pesticide Action Network site at http://www.pan-uk.org/

Organic cotton begins with living soil. This means the soil has not had any chemicals used in it for at least three years and it has been enriched with compost and other organic matter. These replace synthetic fertilizers that are harmful to the health.

Organic cotton production has increased 5-fold in the past 4 years. The UK is among the worlds fastest growing markets. Each year, thanks to organic cotton, more cotton farmers around the world are able to minimise their effect on their health from pesticide exposure.

There are also signs that organic cotton is moving out of its niche market into the mainstream with increased interest on the part of supermarkets and large companies. Marks and Spencers and the Top Shop have recently launched organic and fairtrade clothing ranges to meet the growing market that started with organic food and then moving into non food areas such as cotton and paints.

For those of you that are parents, Clean Slate Clothing has introduced accountability to the clothes which children wear everyday by selling the worlds first Fairtrade and Organic School Uniforms. Ethical companies also need to move beyond selling organic cotton clothes to ensuring that they are using environmentally friendly dyes and recycled materials with the minimum of packaging and literature.

Plus Size Clothes Shopping Big

Women in America are larger than in past decades and plus size clothing manufacturers, realizing this, have spent the last five years ramping up their marketing efforts. According to a recent study completed by research firm Mintel, nearly $32 billion was spent on plus size clothing in 2005. The growth in the plus size clothing market in the last five years has exceeded 50 percent.

According to the Centers for Disease Control 62 percent of U.S. women are overweight or suffer from obesity. Research indicates an expected 10 percent plus size clothing market growth in the next decade.

More than half of the respondents in the Mintel study said they buy plus size clothing. The biggest group of plus size clothing providers is online catalog merchants such as Brylane, home of Lane Bryant and Roamans. Local and national retail chains are also starting to jump on the plus size clothing bandwagon as well, with retailers such as Kohl's and Penny's expanding their noted label products to include larger sizes.

Plus size clothing fashion and design options are expansive - much more so than a decade or so ago. For many years, women have had to shop from a very limited selection of plus size clothing. Now the styles are more flattering and more diverse, the manufacturer's distributions are wider and the plus size clothing products are mass merchandised like never before.

Celebrities such as Oprah and Queen Latifah as well as comedian Mo'Nique have championed the acceptability of the plus size clothing industry. In 2005 Mo'nique introduced the first annual plus size beauty pageant, which was televised nationally. It has become clear to these manufacturers that obesity is lucrative, as women with the money to spend on looking fashionable flock to plus size clothing stores, departments and catalogs.

Eight Simple Reasons Why Cotton Pajamas Make the Perfect Gift

In certain situations and for certain people, cotton pajamas may be the best gift to buy. Here are eight simple reasons why you can’t go wrong with cotton pajamas:

COTTON PAJAMAS MAKE IMPERSONAL GIFTS

If you wish to ensure that the recipient won’t have any reason to misconstrue your gift for anything other than just a plain gift, cotton pajamas are just the answer to your present dilemma (yes, pun intended). Unless you and the other person have inside jokes about cotton pajamas, there’s no way for any person to derive any hidden implication from a simple gift of cotton pajamas.

COTTON PAJAMAS MAY BE A NECESSITY

There are a number of situations that warrant a need for cotton pajamas, and will definitely make you a thoughtful guest for giving such a gift. Cotton pajamas may be deemed necessary in the following conditions:

Finicky Sleepers – If the recipient is known to have a hard time sleeping, your gift symbolizes your concern and your wish for him or her to enjoy a good night’s sleep. Jewelries or clothes can never give a person a deep restful slumber the way comfortable cotton pajamas can!

Moving Out – People who are moving out to a new state, and one where the nights are longer and colder, will benefit from a new pair of pajamas because most of their old sleepwear is probably inadequate to use in their new home.

Camping – While living right next to Mother Nature can be quite an experience, that doesn’t mean it will be all sweetness and light. Mosquitoes present quite a problem. If you know you’re recipient is about to leave for a camping trip, your cotton pajamas will definitely prove to be a godsend!

Conservativeness – Conservative individuals who are about to test their demure sensibilities by living with people of the other sex will thank you for giving them just the right type of sleepwear to make them feel safe and secure at night.

COTTON PAJAMAS ARE AFFORDABLE

Unlike other gifts, cotton pajamas are not only practical choices but affordable as well. They’re certainly cheaper and more useful than a bouquet of imported flowers!

COTTON PAJAMAS MAKE A UNIQUE GIFT

For people with everything, there’s probably little thing in this world that will make them exclaim in surprised pleasure…except for a gift of cotton pajamas!

COTTON PAJAMAS ARE GREAT FOR KIDS OUT FOR A SLUMBER PARTY

If your daughter is planning to hold a slumber party, you can surprise her with a beautiful pair of cotton pajamas. Of course, make sure that you choose cotton pajamas which are designed according to her preferences and not yours. Kids nowadays simply have different tastes from adults.

COTTON PAJAMAS ARE GREAT FOR BABIES AND TODDLERS

If adults can never be too thin or too rich, babies can never have too many pairs of cotton pajamas. Whether your godchild’s a girl or a boy, a cute pair of cotton pajamas is sure to please your godchild’s doting parents.

While some people believe that they have to look great and feel great before they can confidently wear sexy lingerie, no such issues bother the wearer when it comes to cotton pajamas. With cotton pajamas, you don’t have to be extra confident, extra sexy or extra anything. With cotton pajamas, all you have to be is just yourself and that’s why they make the perfect gift.

Shopping For Skater Clothes

I hate shopping for clothes especially with my girl. She has to try on everything in her size in the whole mall. Me, I go up to a rack of clothes see what I like and then get the heck out of there and I still hate it. Now I’m waiting on her.

I had some friends tell me about shopping online so I thought, that would be really cool if I could find a place that had the kind of clothes we both like. We are both into the surfer/skater look since we do both so that was tough, but I found the best place for both of us.

Girls now days are looking for the lowest cut jeans they can find so they can show off the belly ring and the tattoo on their lower back and my chick is no exception. When I told her about buying clothes online and she saw the stuff they had on the site, I was in!

She spent hours on the site looking at all the awesome clothes they have there and I have to admit she bought some smoking hot jeans there. Since it is starting to get a little cool she went ahead and bought a couple of hoodies too.

I love hoodies, so I couldn’t let her get the upper hand on me. I went online and bought three great hoodies and I saved a ton of money, not to mention of ton of time over the mall shopping scene.

I tore a huge hole in the knee of my last good pair of jeans so while I was already online with the credit card out, I bought a few pairs of jeans. I have been putting it off, but like I said I have no choice now. I was blown away by all the choices they had in jeans, not to mention the T-shirts that were screaming my name.
